Minimizing

Columbia MD Tooth Extractions

Pain

Unfortunately there are times when a tooth may become so damaged or fractures in a way that it is necessary to remove the tooth from the mouth. Dr. Joobbani, a local Columbia dentist offers exceptional and gentle care when this treatment is required. The removal of a tooth with an advanced infection is sometimes also indicated to prevent the infection from spreading to other areas of your mouth.

Prior to removing a tooth, Dr. Joobbani will use a local anesthetic to numb the area surrounding the affected tooth. Once the tooth has been removed, stitches might be required to close the extraction site and help control the bleeding. Gauze pressure is also used to control the bleeding for the first hour. After an extraction, Dr. Joobbani recommends that you do not drink through a straw, spit forcefully, or smoke cigarettes as these actions can delay healing and cause bleeding. Dr. Joobbani may also prescribe antibiotics and pain medication depending on the scenario.

While no one likes the idea of having a tooth extracted, rest assured that at our dental office we can replace your missing tooth. Dr. Joobbani will discuss all options available to replace the tooth/teeth with a dental bridge, a dental implant, or a partial denture.

It is important that if a tooth needs to be extracted, it be done as soon as possible to avoid more serious problems and the potential spread of infections. Please contact our Columbia, MD office if you think that you may need a tooth extraction.
